The Group Pocket process now supports separate pocket and island groups, including support for multi-level nested pockets and islands. A number of improvements have been made to the SmartCAM mill roughing processes. CAD and CAM model elements can now be shown using this hierarchical list, which is convenient for viewing as much or as little detail of the model as needed. The SmartCAM List View, a key component of the interface, now displays model data in a "tree structure" that is expandable and collapsible. Data stored in the library can be given a group name and associated to materials and machines allowing the data to be quickly filtered and recalled for reuse.” Several improvements to the SmartCAM v2016 user interface have been included to make SmartCAM even easier and more intuitive to learn and use. “Additionally, the SmartCAM KBM Library can be easily populated from existing jobs with just a few keystrokes. With the improvements to the v2016 KBM Library, that flexibility is still retained, but with the additional benefit of having all their manufacturing data stored and managed in a single repository,” said Doug Oliver, Senior Product Manager at SmartCAMcnc. “SmartCAM has always allowed users to manage their tool and operation parameters in a variety of ways to fit their needs. The associativity feature of the KBM Library allows jobs that use library definitions to be quickly updated to the most current definitions. This ensures consistent and accurate CNC methodologies are used throughout the manufacturing facility. The improved KBM library supports the storing and re-use of tooling and operation settings, greatly increasing the efficiency with which new programs can be created using proven and repeatable processes. SmartCAM v2016 builds on the KBM Library functionality introduced in SmartCAM v2015.
Smart cam cnc software#
The SmartCAM Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software family consists of applications for Computer-Numerical Control (CNC) milling, turning, fabrication and wire EDM. SmartCAM v2016 delivers a substantially updated Knowledge-Base Machining (KBM) Library, as well as improvements to the user interface and to the core milling functionality.
Smart cam cnc windows#
The software operates using Microsoft Windows and one processor, without motion control cards, proprietary hardware, or embedded firmware.SmartCAMcnc has announced the release of SmartCAM v2016. Other features include support of SST DeviceNet I/O, control of analog spindles via Profibus or DeviceNet, and use of pound variables for NC macro programming. Other technology developments include rigid tapping for new machines with positioning servo spindles and a ‘soft’ rigid tapping feature that allows older machine tools with nonpositioning servo spindles to be cost-effectively retrofitted for rigid tapping.
This avoids hardware add-ons, machine downtimes, or outside or network integrators, allowing automated alarming, quality tracking, and planning. This ‘smart’ part programming technology, said to be unmatched in the CNC, PLC, or general motion industries, closes the loop from CAD/CAM to CNC to ERP production planning systems. MDSI says no other CNC system allows use of a standard NC part program to trigger the collection and distribution of data from a CNC, via Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript).
Smart cam cnc upgrade#
MDSI calls the upgrade ‘groundbreaking new technology that gives manufacturing engineers, for the first time, the ability to modify their standard NC part programs to capture and send data without requiring outside or network integrators, expensive hardware add-ons, or machine downtimes.’ Modifications can be made on the CAD/CAM workstation in the engineering office. Manufacturing Data Systems Inc.’s (MDSI) new OpenCNC V5.1 is said to streamline manufacturing for the Internet.
